Rangers of the North
Apostate Black Númenorean healer
Nestaron Mistion (The wandering healer) A.K.A Salabon (Herbs) A.K.A Jhon the Adulterer A.K.A Camrinir Nimlon (Black Númenórean name)
Black Númenórean navn:
Fornavnet stammer fra T.A. 814.
When asked about his family lineage he says that he’s family was killed by Orcs and if pushed he simply says that he was very young and that he doesn’t want to talk about it.
He’s family lineage is littered with more or less famous Black Númenóreans whose motto was always personal gain and power at all cost.
The family is mortally firm in it’s belief that their blood should not be mingled with the “lesser races” and is known to kill any outsider that may threaten the bloodline.
Growing up was very competitive with older cousins who were eager to serve the newly re emerging dark lord to further their personal quest for power. A younger brother who openly admits to having ambitions to carry the family name further and a sister who dances at the brink of madness having spent too much time delving in the arts of evil sorcery. However he’s sister has secretly always been he’s greatest ally and they often spoke of running away together. As he was always looking out for her when they were young, showing her the best hiding places their relationship is about as close as black Númenóreans come to family love. Indeed his sister is the only member of he’s family he still communicates with, sending secret letters in a code only known to them using lots of private references that only they would understand.
When chance presented itself to get far away by becoming a spy in Minas Tirith he jumped at the chance. He’s family was doubtful that someone so young and inexperience could undertake such a complex task but they put he’s enthusiasm down to wanting to prove he’s worth of he’s heritage.
The missions to spy on and possibly assassinate Sir Gilorwen, captain of Gondors 3rd mounted regiment, in Minas Tirith started out well enough. He soon discovered that he’s targets wife, the Lady Gilorwen, worked at the House of Healing. Some time passed and he discovered that layin low and keeping to himself was not a very effective way to spy on someone so he sought employment as an apothecary at the House of Healing thinking that it may get him close to he’s target and that he may obtain some good poisons while he was working there. He soon discoverd that he had a real talent and passion for herbs and there effects.
After some time he became Lady Gilorwen’s apprentice as a herbalist. Soon after he was admited as a junior member of the healers guild. “The fellowship of Healers” The mission faded slowly away and he became more and more immersed in the intense pleasure of selflessly helping others in need. Something he had never known before. Something alien to Black Númenóreans. The direct opposite of what he was taught as a child. The reverse of everything he hated- the intrigues, psychological warfare and torture of he’s upbringing.
Time passed and when he’s spy handler grew impatient and approached him he said that he was growing close to the target and that the spy handler should not contact him any more for fear of being discovered.
Salabon Mistion, Herbs the wanderer
One day he was complaining to one of the older Dunedine gentlemen about the shortness of herb supply and about the lack of scientific knowledge that exists regarding various herbs arguing that most of the lore surrounding the herbs are based on nothing more then superstition and folklore. The older gentlemen agreed completely and told him that in fact he was looking for someone to travel around collecting samples and supplies for he’s studies of the various plants. Thus began 3 wonderful years of traveling all over the old kingdoms collecting plants and animals for scientific study. He learned the art of living off the land and surviving in all weathers. In the beginning he was moderately successful but as he’s skill grew so did he’s esteem in the scholarly societies in Minas Tirith and he was admitted as a Junior member in College of the spoken word. and the Rynd Thannath “Halls of Learning”. The society had contacts and safe houses all over the old kingdoms and he benefited much from their aid.
Scouted by the rangers
One day he was gathering Arpslsar herbs north of Tarbad when he came across a group of farmers who had been attacked by goblins. He immediately and without thought for himself started using he’s herbal and healing skills on the wounded and offering them all what little food and provisions he had. However an old farmer was mortally wounded and after six sleepless days he could not save the man. What he didn’t know was that one of the farmers was a ranger named Carondor who was most impressed by the self sacrifice Salabon had displayed. Carondor traveled with him for a short while teaching him about the plants and animals and the old kingdoms. Carondor was of course paying close attention to Salabon, trying to find out what sort of man he was and when he discovered that Salabon indeed had the heart to become a true ranger Carondor sat in motion a series of events that would lead the young Salabon down that path.
Nestaron, The healer
When he came back to Minas Tirith he was offered a grant and a full apprenticeship as a doctor at The House of Healing. Over the next two years he learned the skills of the healer and gained access to the various layers of Minas Tirith society becoming a full member of the Healers Guild, the college of the spoken word and the Halls of Learning. He was also invited to become a member of an exclusive gentlemen’s club “Gentlemen of the white tree” where he was introduced to an old Duedine who told him stories about the Rangers of the North. He was starting to really enjoy he’s new life and he felt he could live like this for ever. But there was an uneasiness growing inside. A feeling that he had to do something more for the people of middle earth.
Nestaron Mistion , The wandering healer
Soon after he’s final exams he set out determined to become a ranger. He packed up he’s traveling gear and headed for Bree.
Salabon and the finding of the book of Necromancy
Here follows the account of Salabon, Healer in Gondor and the finding of the book of Necromancy. It has come to me, the book of Necromancy. It shall be an heirloom of my kingdom in Far Harad. All that should follow in my bloodline shall be bound to its fate for I will risk no hurt to the Book. It is precious to me, though I bear it with a great pain. The markings upon the band begin to fade with time. The writing, which must at first have been as clear as pressed gold leaf, has all but disappeared. A secret now that only a fine spyglass can tell.
Feredir. The moral compass that always points North
I can see more and more as time passes that the moral guidance of Feredir is the most important tool i have in the fight to overcome the evil i was born in to. I am often shocked at the odd choices he makes. The humanity that comes so natural to him. I do not believe he truly knows how important he’s friendship is to me… I have learned many things thees past months. I leaned that you should give even a barbarian an honest chance. That it is wrong to torture an agent of Mordor and that you should not vivisect a living orc. Hm… Who knew.
Fluent — You have either studied a language in depth, or
lived in an area that uses that language constantly. You
are completely fluent in this language and can speak and
read it like a native. In fact, you probably know how to
read and write better than most natives. This ability grants
you 20 extra ranks to apply to both spoken and written
ranks for your starting languages (subject to the normal
guidelines). [Lesser, 5]
You always had a gift for languages. You started speaking your native
tongue at an early age, and you were soon speaking smatterings of
other languages as well. You have studied one particular language for
most of your years. You have read ancient texts written in previous
forms of that language, and you have talked with many people from
different parts of the country to gain insight into the different accents
the language has. You are one of the foremost authorities on this
language, and often speak it more fluently than your native language.
Trained Healer – Diagnostics, Second Aid, Midwifery and Surgery are classified as everyman skills for you.
Herbalist — You naturally recognize herbs and poisons and
may use them. You also receive a special bonus of +20 to
all of your Cooking, Foraging, Use Prepared Herbs, Prepare
Herbs, Poison Lore, and Herb Lore maneuvers.
You have always been fascinated by plants. You are very knowledgeable
about enchanted herbs and deadly poisons, being able to find them in
their natural state and put them to the appropriate use. You also know
what various plants taste like and can liven up a meal or even make
a meal out of the surrounding flora.
Broad Sword Directed Weapons Master (Minor) — One weapon skill may be classified as everyman. [Minor, 10]
You are known as the kensai. You are unified with your weapon. Your
skill with it is unsurpassed. Your weapon is an extension of you; just
think where you want it to go, and it is there. You care little for other
weapons; you focus on the one.
Stat Bonus (Major) — As the minor talent, except the bonus is +5.
Battle Reflexes — You may make an extra initiative roll and select the one you wish to use. [Minor, 7]
You can adapt to any combat situation very quickly. You can assess the whirlwind of information that assaults you in combat. You know how to use that information to your own advantage, and you press that advantage whenever you can. Even if you are surprised, you can recover more quickly than normal. Then you can press the battle to your victory.
Heir — You are the heir to a great hero or Lord. Few
people know of your position (in fact you may not know
it either). You may discover your lineage while retrieving
a great item once belonging to your parents or some equally
important quest. Powerful evil forces may know more
about your ancestry than you do, and you may well be
hunted by them because of it. [Minor, 10]
You do not know who your parents were. You were raised by a guardian,
someone who never told you to whom you were born. You do carry
one small item, presumably given to you by your real parents, but so
far it has not revealed your origins. You have thought little about your
parents until recently. Someone mentioned how you bore a striking
resemblance to a famous Lord or hero. You dismissed it as superstition,
but began to wonder about your lineage. Perhaps someday you will
find out who your true parents are.
Eloquence — You receive a special bonus of +25 to all of
your spell casting static maneuvers. [Major, 15]
Some people are so showy. They wave their hands, chant, and dance
around just to cast a spell. Would it not be more efficient to just do
minimal gestures and say a few words. It seems to work for you, but
then that’s why you get your spells off quicker
Exceptional Magical Ability — You are exceptionally enchanted.
You receive a special bonus of +50 to your RR
versus one realm and a special bonus of +25 when casting
spells or using items based in that realm.
Spells come easy to you. You resist them and cast them with few
problems. You were destined to be a great spell caster. Even if you do
not cast spells, you can still use magical items better than you thought
possible. When you throw spells on foes, they almost always take effect.
You can feel the power, and revel in using it.
Addiction/Mild (Common) — As Addiction/Simple (Common),
except the Addiction Factor is 10 or less.
If only you had a drink in your hand, then you could calm down and
think. You can almost taste the sweet burning liquid running down
your throat, the slight numbness tingling over your body. You really
want a drink. You get into a lot of fights, and you spend most of your
money, but you need it. It helps you cope with stressful situations, like
this one. Man, you really need a drink.
Sense of Duty — You feel that you have a responsibility towards someone or something. This is an internal feeling, one you have placed upon yourself. You will never betray, harm, or mislead those to whom you have a Sense of Duty. Your Sense of Duty is towards a close friend or small group.
Sense of Duty (Major) — As the lesser flaw, except you have a Sense of Duty towards a country or equally large group. [Major, -15]
Whenever you see a young woman in trouble, you immediately remember your sister. She used to get into all sorts of trouble, often relying on you, her big brother, to come and rescue her. You cared a lot for her, and whenever you see someone that reminds you of her, you feel a sense of duty towards that person. Your comrades say you cannot help every young woman you come across. Some women need help and you are the only one who can give it to them.
Repulsive Habit — You have a habit that is considered repulsive by the majority of society. You may choose the habit (subject to the GM’s approval). You must make a conscious effort to perform this habit whenever possible. When people notice your habit, they will tend to regard you with disdain, possibly loathing. Your habit annoys people, but does not disgust them. This habit could range from always boasting loudly to all around you, to having bad breath, to relieving yourself in public. Again, the GM has the last say on any habit.
Repulsive Habit (Major) — As the lesser flaw, except your habit makes everyone in the room get up and leave. [Major, -15]
You like to do what you want. You do not care if it offends someone. You refuse to bathe because you feel that water is an evil substance. Your brother drowned in a pond, and you refuse to let even a small amount of water touch you. People wrinkle up their noses when you walk by, and when you sit next to someone they invariably leave. You do not care though, you have you reasons for avoiding a bath.
Secret — You have a secret that if discovered will cause you much embarrassment and pain. You may choose the actual secret you are keeping and it can be related to another flaw you have. You also may choose what could happen to you if the secret was revealed. The GM must approve all secrets. You must do your best to keep your secret; you are terribly embarrassed about the situation and will do whatever it takes to keep it quiet. If the secret were found out, it would cause you great embarrassment.
Secret (Major) — As the lesser flaw, except if the secret is discovered, it could cause your death. [Major, -15]
You killed an innocent man in a bar fight. If anyone found out about that night, there would much retribution aimed towards you. It will not matter that it was not your fault, everyone would blame you and you would have to flee town again. It would be just like the last town. No one seems to be able to understand that it is not your fault..
Secret Identity — You have an alternate identity that you keep hidden from the general public. You actually lead a double life, one as yourself and one as your alter-ego. You also have a group of people who are interested in who you really are, thus making you cautious about who you disclose your identity to. The GM must ascertain that there is really a need for a secret identity, or that there is someone or something that cares about the character’s real identity. [Minor, -10]
Sometimes it if helpful for you to don another identity. During the day, people know you as Lokath, humble spice merchant. During the night, you assume your other persona. You are known as Shadow, the master thief. You use this identity to get you into places that you would be normally be prevented from entering. You have even become an official member of the Thieves’ Guild. You move among them, hearing their plans, receiving training from them, even teaching younger thieves. What the Thieves’ Guild does not know is that you have a mission. You are waiting for the perfect opportunity to avenge your daughter’s death. She was killed by a thief, and you aim to find out which one and plunge your dagger deep into his stomach. You use your secret identity to further your investigation. You only hope that no one discovers who you really are.
